In line with the Kiehl’s philosophy, this cream has a minimal packaging. It is in fact contained in a white plastic jar, without drawings or decorations. The style is simple and sober.

Opening the jar for the first time, however, we also notice the presence of a protective film, which prevents the cream from deteriorating. And that’s great!

And now, let’s review Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream.

I added it into my skincare routine to replace Clinique’s moisturising gel. Here are my opinions!

The fragrance is neutral, since it does not contain perfume: this is an excellent news for those with particularly sensitive skin.

After applying the cream to the face, it is absorbed in a few moments, but its action continues for a long time. In fact, the epidermis becomes softer and I feel it’s nourished, as if it was plumped.

Personally, I find that this cream is slightly more suitable for winter than for the hot season. It can still be used in summer, but its specific nourishing action is excellent for pampering the skin stressed by the intense cold.

The skin isn’t oily nor sticky. Plus, it’s a great makeup base.

I prefer to apply it only in the morning, although it is possible to use it both freshly awake and in the evening. At night, I prefer to choose specific products, such as the Midnight Recovery line by Kiehl’s or a mask created specifcally for the night.

Finally, the price. Here we are in line with Kiehl’s standards and, while we certainly cannot define this product as cheap, its cost is justified by quality.

Let’s analyze in detail the greatest qualities of Ultra Facial Cream.

It has an excellent moisturizing power, which lasts throughout the day. Its action is particularly nutritious and makes it a perfect ally for those who want to fight skin dehydration.

It is an ideal cream to be applied even in those situations that create more stress to our skin (air conditioning, intense cold, very dry environments,…), because it protects and nourishes it.

It also works well as a base for make-up, especially with primers and foundation.

Cons

Let’s now come to the so-called negative aspects of my personal experience with Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream.

First of all this is a rich cream, which in itself is not a negative side. But this feature makes it a product not suitable for those with oily skin, as it could be too heavy.

Additionally, I personally prefer tube packs, both for hygiene reasons and because textures seem to be better preserved. Although, I must admit it, with this type of packaging there is no waste of product.

As far as antarcticine is concerned, it is important to know that it is a natural glycoprotein with great cryo-protective properties. It is therefore able to protect the skin from intense cold, as well as being an anti-wrinkle, since it increases the formation of elastin.

One of their best seller products are the eye patches, that promise to revitalize the area.

But are they worth it? I decided to buy a pack and test them to see what results can be achieved. This is the review of my experience with these eye patches.

Pixi Beauty Brand

First of all, let’s find out more about the brand. Pixi Beauty was created by Petra Strand more than 20 years ago.

The brand made its first appearance in the Soho store in London and has continued to expand ever since.

Pixi goal is to bring out our natural beauty, thanks to its multifunction products with innovative formulations.

Among its flagship products, in addition to the eye patches that are the subject of this review, there are also the Glow Tonic, the blush and the detergent, all best sellers.

Pixi has also developed several lines, to meet our most common needs.

What about the price? Pixi products are quite affordable: they are located above the classic products that we can also find at the drugstore, but they are still less expensive than luxury products.

Finally, it’s important to say that this brand adopts a cruelty-free policy. On the contrary, not all products are suitable for those who follow a vegan lifestyle, although between the various lines there are several vegan products.

Pixi eye patches: the product

Let’s analyze the product Pixi Eye Patches.

These patches have the classic, drop shaped, designed to treat the area around the eyes. I noticed that they also are larger than other similar products, so the area actually treated is wider.

They are soaked in a gel serum that contains active ingredients designed to hydrate the area and counteract swelling and dark circles. Additionally, they have no fragrance.

They are stored in a light green, circular jar made of plastic. Each pack contains 60 patches, for a total of 30 uses.

Once the package is opened, we will also find a second lid, which is used to keep the patches separate from the useful plastic scoop, which facilitates picking.

There are 4 different versions of these eye patches:

• BeautifEYE: brightening 
• FortifiEYE: toning.
• Dream-YEYE: regenerating.
• DetoxifEYE: decongestant.

How to use Pixi Eye Patches

How do we use Pixi Eye Patches? First, remember that they should be applied on clean skin, so let’s do a gentle cleansing.

Then we use the scoop included in the package to pick up a couple of patches and gently separate them.

Now we apply a patch on each eye contour, with the thickest part towards the outer corner of the eye.

Let’s wait for 10 minutes and then we can remove the patches.

Some gel will remain on the skin: we can tap gently with the ring fingers.

If we want even stronger results, we can put the eye patches in the refrigerator before using them.

How often should we use them? We can apply them as much as we want to. Additionally, they are suitable for everyday use.

Review: my experience with Pixi Eye Patches

And now, here is my honest review of my experience with Pixi Eye Patches.

Usually I don’t have dark marks under my eyes, but sometimes the area looks swollen. My skin is sensitive and therefore I am always rather cautious when I try a new cosmetic.

However, these patches have never caused me any irritation.

So, how good where them?

First of all, I tried to use these patches at various times of the day, often keeping them for more than 10 minutes. If we have a special event, in my experience it is best to apply them a few hours before it.

They are also good to use when the eye contour is fatigued, especially when you haven’t slept a lot.

In the image below we can see the results after using the patches for the first time.

After removing the patches, the eye contour is more compact and firm.

I also tried to keep them in the fridge for a while: they seem even more effective!

In addition, these patches are also great for those like me, who spend many hours in front of the computer. The tightening effect that is perceived as a particular relief.

The patches are then dipped in plenty of liquid and are well soaked.

Speaking of the packaging, the jar is simple but still aesthetically pleasing. The double cap is also worthwhile.

To sum up, my overall experience is positive.

After using them, I usually apply either Cerave eye contour or Kiehl eye contour, enriched with avocado.

Cons

Now let’s talk about the most critical aspects of these eye patches. In fact, although the overall experience is positive, there are some things that aren’t great.

First of all, it is necessary to be very careful during the first applications. In fact, the patches may be quite slippery once applied to the skin.

In fact, the patches tend to slip away, especially when I am standing.

It also happened once that a patch moved a little while I was lying down. Probably because it was particularly rich in gel.

After the first uses, we could have some serum residues on the skin after a few hours, which form small agglomerations that must be removed. That’s because the gel wasn’t evenly distributed on the patches.

Finally, a few times some patches broke on the sides while I was positioning them, probably due to a nail scratch.

The good news is that most of the downsides are visible only during the first applications. Then they disappear.

They do not contain ingredients of animal origin and are therefore suitable for those who follow a vegan lifestyle.

What are the most interesting ingredients? Well, there’s a solution derived from sea buckthorn, known for its high content of vitamin C, polyphenols, carotenoids and vitamin E.

Then there is niacinamide, known for its antioxidant properties. Its anti-ageing effect is also enhanced by the presence of ferulic acid.

This list also contains extract of licorice and ginseng, which are anti-inflammatory, toning and revitalizing.

As we said, this is the list of the BeautifEye version. However, I also checked the ingredient lists of the other variants.

Although each of them has some peculiar elements, we often find the same active ingredients in all of them. Caffeine for example is listed in all of them and coconut extract as well as green tea extract are also common.

Well, speaking in absolute terms probably not, but they are still really valid patches and I like them.

In fact, in the end I was satisfied and therefore I would most likely buy them again, perhaps trying another version.

It should also be noted that the packaging allows us to make 30 applications, so the quantity/price ratio is still interesting, despite the higher initial expenditure. Each pair of patches costs us about 90 cents. Not bad!

But is it really worth it? I was really curious to find out if this serum could quickly improve the appearance of the skin.

In this review I am going to tell you about my experience with Garnier Vitamin C Serum. Let’s get started!

The product: Garnier’s Vitamin C Serum

First of all, let’s discover the main characteristics of Garnier Vitamin C Serum, which we can also find with the name (actually quite long) Garnier 3.5% Vitamin C, Niacinamide, Salicylic Acid, Brightening and Anti Dark Spot Serum.

This facial serum is part of Garnier Skin Active line and it stands out for its light formulation, which acts to reduce the appearance of dark spots while at the same time helping to brighten the skin.

So it’s a great product for pigmentation and discoloration troubles.

Thanks to niacinamide it can also be used by those with acne-prone skin.

Here are the results obtained from the tests carried out directly by Garnier:

What can we expect? Definetely more radiant, uniform, smooth skin with less visibile spots over time.

Garnier Vitamin C Serum Review: my personal experience

This is my experience with Garnier Vitamin C Serum, after using it for more than a month.

Premise: my skin is mixed and sensitive, with some spots caused by hyper pigmentation.

It is precisely to combat the latter that I started using this Garnier serum. In addition, the color of my skin appears tired and dull (especially in winter): it really needs a burst of energy.

That’s why I started tried using Garnier‘s lightening serum in the morning, in the evening or at both times of the day, to see the different reactions of my skin.

The fragrance of the serum is light and the lemon notes in the new formulation are just hinted at.

The serum is easy to spread on the face, it is lightweight and it is absorbed within ten seconds (as long as you don’t apply too much of it).

It is definitely a pleasant product to use. I also like the fact that it doesn’t stick.

After two weeks of use, my skin was more beautiful: it is in fact brighter and more compact. Then, after a month of regular use, I noticed that the spots on the skin actually started to become less noticeable.

As for the packaging, I find it simple but practical: thanks to the opaque glass we can in fact see how much serum remains inside the bottle. Cool!

Finally, this cerum certainly has an excellent quality/price ratio (especially in the online stores that we find indicated in the section on where to buy it).

What are the most interesting active ingredients in this formulation? We have 3 of them:

First of all we have niacinamide, one of the most loved ingredients in the skincare world. This is because it has soothing properties and at the same time it strengthens the skin’s natural barrier, making the pores smaller.

We also found it in The Ordinary 10% Niacinamide + 1% Zinc serum, that I like (and which I recently repurchased, as it is so good).

Then we find vitamin C, which helps make the skin brighter and reduce skin spots. But there’s even more.

In one of my last orders of cosmetic products, I couldn’t help but include some products from Kora Organics.

I discovered this company last year, when I first tried noni face oil. It was love… at first use!

In fact, it is a product that I have not wanted to give up and that I include on a rotating basis in my skincare routine.

My enthusiasm for this oil was so great that I continued for a long time to focus on other products of Kora Organics, determined to test them.

I wanted to know if that first experience was a lucky case, or if the company is really able to create several excellent products.

So in my last order I also wanted to include the Turmeric Brightening Exfoliating Mask and the oil for the eye contour.

I was long undecided between the turmeric mask and the noni mask, but then I decided to leave the second for a future purchase.

And now, let’s start our review!

Before diving into the Turmeric Brightening Exfoliating Mask review, let’s talk about Kora Organics.

The company was founded in 2009 by Miranda Kerr, famous for being one of Victoria’s Secret’s angels and a supermodel.

The line of personal care products includes masks, oils, serums, detergents, exfoliators but also food supplements.

Kora Organics has also won numerous awards. It is characterized by natural and organic ingredients.

In line with this philosophy, no sulphates, fragrances, synthetic colours, parabens, silicones, formaldehydes or formaldehyde derivatives are used in the beauty products.

Finally, the company is cruelty free.

What’s the Turmeric Lightening and Exfoliating Mask created by Miranda Kerr

Kora Organics 2-in-1 Turmeric Brightening & Exfoliating Mask is a 99.8% natural ingredient-based mask, while 75.8% of it is also organic.

I must say, these are impressive numbers!

This turmeric mask can be considered as a 2 in 1 treatment, as it is exfoliating and illuminating.

In fact, while cleansing the skin, this product is also able to reduce the skin discolouration caused by UV rays.

Finally, it is suitable for all skin types and is also suitable for those who follow a vegan lifestyle.

The product has the consistency of a (brownish) cream. Its texture is reminiscent of a scrub, as it contains grains.

How to use Kora Turmeric Mask

Before applying Kora Organics Turmeric Mask, just lightly moisten your face.

Then spread a thin layer of product on the skin, avoiding the eye area.

Leave it on for 5-15 minutes to act.

After the laying time has elapsed, remove the mask using warm water and making circular, gentle movements.

However, if you want a more intense exfoliating effect, you can also remove the mask using a damp cloth.

After the mask, you should apply a moisturizing treatment. In fact, as it is an exfoliating product, you skin will then need sweetness and nourishment.

You could use Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream.

Finally, for best results, use this turmeric mask 2-3 times a week.

The INCI is really impressive. It’s pretty long, but what’s really impressive is the quality of the ingredients used in this mask.

In addition to certified organic turmeric and aloe vera juice, the mask also contains papaya, Aspen bark and powdered dog rose, noni, arrowroot, bamboo and white tea seeds.

There are also numerous oils, such as cedar, peppermint, lavender, sunflower and ylang-ylang.

Review of Kora Organics 2-in-1 Turmeric Brightening & Exfoliating Mask

We come now to the full review of the Turmeric Brightening Exfoliating Mask.

I used the mask following the instructions of the brand, that is, I applied it on damp skin and left it to act for the maximum recommended installation time (15 minutes).

At first glance, the appearence of the mask isn’t exactly the best. In fact, it appears as a green cream tending to brownish, rather grainy.

The fragrance is intense and reminiscent of a mix of turmeric, ginger and rosemary. However, it is still pleasant and full of energy.

The mask spreads well on the skin and does not run: for this reason it is not necessary to lie down during the treatment. It is also easy to remove. And that’s great!

And now, let’s talk about the results I have achieved.

After rinsing this turmeric mask, my skin is hydrated and smoother. It does not pull, but I still apply a moisturizing product.

There was a problem though. As you know by now, my skin is sensitive and flushes quite easily. After the first application, I had some redish areas on my face. This happened mostly on the forehead and sides of the nose.

I think this side effect is due to skin exfoliation and stimulation, which are actually very effective. Since the second application, therefore, I have reduced the installation time to 10/12 minutes and I have had no more problems. The mask now does its duty and it does it well.

The turmeric mask is therefore promoted, but I advise you to apply it before going to sleep or when you have to stay at home for a few hours.

In my opinion, in fact, it is not the right treatment to do immediately before leaving the house, at least for those who have skin that is easily reddened like mine.

In fact, maskne is caused by the combination of several factors. First of all, our skin barrier is irritated by rubbing from the mask. In addition, when we are breathing for a long time with our masks on, trapped breath creates humidity. The combination of these factors leads to a breeding ground for skin problems.

Maskne may happen on your jawline, cheeks and nose, which is where your mask touches your skin.

How can you prevent it?

Nowadays maskne is a real issue, but luckily you can make some easy adjustments to your skincare routine in order to avoid it.

Beauty tips: face care

First of all, the beautician told me to use micellar water (also called cleasing water) to take my makeup off. Its micelles naturally attract dirt and oil and it cleans the skin in a gentle way. The skin expert suggested to rinse the face with warm water (never use hot water) and then apply a skin toner. I‘ve already used micellar water and I like it because it’s so easy to use, but I didn’t know that you should rinse your face after using it. I will give this a try!

Face serum

Confession here: I heard about face serum before, but actually, I didn’t know what it was and not even its purpose.

First things first. What is face serum ? A face serum is a liquid skincare product rich in active principles. Thanks to its molecular composition, it can act in dept. Moreover, because of its particular formulation, just a few dops are enough.

How to use it? The answer is pretty simple: after cleansing but before moisturizing. Apply it on dry skin and with rapid movements. The skin will quickly absorb it and the serum will enhance your cream’s effects. You should apply it on your neck and décolleté, also.

There are different types of face serum, each of them having particular characteristics. You will be able to find the best for your skin type. In particular, some of the main properties of serums are: brightening your face, preventing and contrasting wrinkles, contrasting dullness and moisturizing.

Why a primer is essential ?

Before applying makeup, the beautician suggested me to use a primer. This product creates an extra layer between your face and foundation. As a consequence, the surface of your skin will look smoother and  makeup will last longer. Furthermore, it will hide little imperfections.

Different types of primer are available and you can choose the best one according to your skin type. The most important thing to remember when buying  primer is choosing a light one, preferably silicone-free.

A matting primer is perfect for you if you have oily skin, while you could choose a brightening primer if you suffer from dullness.

Beauty advice: mascara and eyeshadow  

Talking about beauty advices and eyes, it’s important to choose an eyeshadow that enhance our iris’ color.

In my case, having blue eyes, the beautician suggested me to use silver and auburn tones. Actually, I have already used them and I really like the effect on my eyes, as they naturally emphasize blue.

If you have brown eyes, you could use violet and blue eyeshadows to give them depth or you could choose gold and bronze to have a tone on tone look.
Lasty, if you have a green iris, the best eyeshadow colors for your eyes are pink, red and plum.

When you are buying mascara, the skin expert’s advice is to carefully consider the composition but also the brush’s shape.

If you aim for longer eyelashes, a thin brush is perfect for you, while if you want to have ticker eyelashes, go for a bigger brush. Then, if your goal is curler eyelashes, the best thing to do is having a brush with bristles of different lengths.

Ok, now let’s talk about eyeliner. Let’s face it, applying eyeliner can be so difficult! To simplify the process, the skin expert told me to draw tiny dots across the eyelid, in order to create the final shape. Then, simply connect the dots with a fine line. And voilà, guaranteed success!

Beauty tips for your lips

Talking about lips, the first suggestion is pretty simple: if you decide to have a smoky eyes, it’s better to choose a nude makeup for your lips. Nude makeup may appear as the perfect passe-partout, ideal for any occasion. Actually, choosing the perfect nude lipstick can be really tricky. To avoid any mistakes, therefore, it’s important to carefully look at your skin’s undertone. It is harder said than done, believe me.

If your skin tone tends to a pink color, the ideal nude lipstick should contain pink pigments, while if it tends to yellow, your nude lipstick should include beige tones.

Another great idea is to use a lip liner before applying your lipstick. In fact, using a lip pencil offers two significant advantages: it avoids lipstick smudging and it increases the color’s duration.

• Always remove your makeup; it’s even better if you use micellar water,

Less is more!

The first tip is pretty simple: avoid make-up. Probably we used a lot of it during the holidays, so a good idea is to go make-up free: a couple of days should be enough to have an healthier skin. Another good idea is using natural and organic skincare brands.

Get rid of acne 

Ok, indulging in delicious food was one of my favorite activities in the last few days (hum… weeks maybe) but now I can spot some new blackheads around my nose and on my chin. Definitely not happy about it. Purifying masks are the solution and a clay face mask may be perfect for you. There are several types of clay, including green (absorbent and anti-inflammatory), white (purifying and astringent) and pink (anti-inflammatory and anti-reddening).

The scrub

The scrub, our greatest friend. There are so many different types of scrub, so many textures! You can buy them, or you can prepare your scrub at home. If you choose this option, be careful! Some time ago, I decided to do it and I used coffee dregs: I heard they were good for the skin and wanted to give them a try. I put the blend on my legs and I massaged it. Well, after a few minutes I had a rapid heartbeat. Nothing to be alarmed about, but I won’t use coffee in my scrub again. Now my favorite ingredients are sugar and salt: you can mix them with olive oil to obtain a great homemade scrub. Don’t be too vigorous while rubbing it, especially on sensitive areas, such as the eye contour.

Puffy eyes

A great remedy to help you reducing puffy eyes comes from tea. You simply put two bags of tea in the fridge (or, if you are in a rush, put them in bowl with iced water) and then, once they are cold, you put them on your eyes for a few minutes. The bags under your eyes will tone down. For a stronger effect, try using green tea!

Get clean from the inside out

There are a few good practice that we can use on our daily life to help our skin after the holidays. Try to drink a lot: herbal tea (artichoke and dandelion are excellent ingredients), green tea or hot water with lemon are tasteful options. You can add some honey to sweeten your beverage. Eating a lot of vegetables and fruits is another good solution to stay hydrated. Seasonal vegetables for the month of January are cabbage, chicory, artichoke, fennel and leek, while some fruits in season are oranges, tangerines, kiwis, pears and apples. You could also eat wholegrain cereals, fish and white meat.
Another way to have your body – and your skin- back on track is sleeping enough: try to have 7-8 hours of sleep per night.

Those are simple and effective ways to revitalize your skin back after the holiday season, I’m using them too and I can already see some results. Also, here there are a few products to moisturize, purifying and brighten your skin!
